A neurosurgical hand rest.

چکیده
A the microscope came into vogue, the surgeons enjoyed a huge optical advantage, but at the price of increasing the working distance. This often resulted in early fatigue of the shoulder, arm and hand muscles and also predisposed to tremors very soon. The stability of the surgeon’s hand and the surgeon’s fatigue cannot be measured, and the impressions of the surgeons using the system are therefore subjective.

متن کاملThe Implications of Global Neurosurgery for Low- and Middle-Income Countries. The Case of Cameroon.
The unequal distribution of neurosurgical resources and diseases in the world contributes to inequality. Eight in ten neurosurgical cases needing essential neurosurgical care are found in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs); however, LMICs lack the neurosurgical resources to address these needs. Besides, where neurosurgical care is available, it is not financially accessible to the majorit...
متن کاملA Protocol for Diagnosis and Management of Cerebrospinal Shunt Infections and other Infectious Conditions in Neurosurgical Practice
Infections of the cerebrospinal shunts and other neurosurgical structures are not uncommon in the clinical practice. These infections are mostly clinical emergencies carrying negative prognostic impacts on the patients as well as spending healthcare resources. The low pathogenicity nature of some implicated pathogens results in minimal physical signs that may complicate the diagnosis and mislea...
متن کاملThe props-based interface for neurosurgical visualization.
We describe a three-dimensional human-computer interface for neurosurgical visualization. The interface is based on the two-handed physical manipulation of hand-held tools, or "props", in free space. These user interface "props" facilitate transfer of the user's skills for manipulating tools with two hands to the operation of a user interface for visualizing 3D medical images, without need for ...
متن کاملUniform qualitative electrophysiological changes in postoperative rest tremor.
Ablation and deep brain stimulation (DBS) can treat pharmacologically uncontrollable tremor. Here, we compared the postoperative electrophysiological changes in resting hand tremor after 32 ablations and 12 DBS implantations in patients with severe tremor-dominant idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD) and essential tremor (ET). Short- and long-term accelerometric data were acquired after surgery ...
